Do You Have to Be Young To Be Beautiful?

beauty2There’s a bombardment from, well, everywhere, of anti-aging do’s & don’t & must-haves and I for one have been guilty of falling into the trap they inevitably pound us into: that our youth is the most important and the most beautiful stage of our lives, so we’d better do what we can to either keep up the facade that we still have it, or try to get it back. Not only is that an immense amount of pressure, but it can be expensive! We see actresses that we’ve watched over the years hit some magic number where they decide it’s time to mess with nature and have a ‘procedure’. And we can tell!

We ooohh and aaahh at babies and toddlers, exclaiming at how adorable they are, knowing full well they will grow into another stage of cuteness, and another after that. We don’t put a stop sign on children’s aging, so why do we put one on ourselves as adults? There is beauty in every stage of life. Just as the nurture and care of children changes as they grow, so must our nurture and care for ourselves continue to grow, and yes, continue to be embraced.

63 modelBeauty is far more than just a set of numbers, like the size of our jeans, how many miles we can run, or our age. It goes beyond the surface like our skin or the color of our hair, or the absence of cottage cheese on our thighs. It is seen in the quality of our smile, the wisdom in our choices, the care we take of what we’ve been blessed with. Beauty is mysterious, it quickens our senses, it captivates us. It is deep and abiding, and it is a gift.

So, rather than focusing on desperately trying to hold onto a stage that is ready to move on, let’s celebrate the stage we are in now. Let’s appreciate and nurture our bodies and our souls as they are, treating them to health and life, wholesome food and products , proud of how far we’ve come, and confident that we are becoming all we are meant to be.

Be happy. Be healthy. Be beautiful. Be you. Absolutely.

What if You Didn’t Have to Fear the Future?

frustratedSometimes when we feel like we’re between a rock and a hard place in terms of  providing for ourselves and our families, we forget that there may be more out there than what we think we can see, so we feel trapped … and we fear for our futures.

I know what that feels like. A claustrophobic feeling, a helpless feeling, a pressure inside my chest that builds and builds. But I’ve learned some things that have taken the place of the hopelessness, the panic, the “suck-it-up-buttercup” feeling. If you’ve read anything I’ve written in the past, you’ll know that I am a Jesus-person, but you may not know that it’s taken some between-a-rock-and-a-hard-place-moments for me to get it settled deep within my heart that I’m not trapped. I do have options and choices. And so do you.

Life is ever-fluctuating. Just because we chose a vocation or lifestyle in our twenties does not dictate the remainder of our years despite what our superiors may have told us. Since we are always growing and learning, there are aspects of our personalities, our gifts, our dreams and desires that flourish over time, leaving us slightly different than we were when we first ventured out. What is important to understand is that God does not just give us a “go out in the world and see what you can do, kid!” push and leave us to our own devices. Rather, He is an ever-present help. Closer than our next breath. Interested in our thoughts, our hopes, our dreams… because He created us. He instilled particular, unique aspects into who we are because we are important to Him, to His purpose, to His heart. We are not alone.

And the whole business of learning to be content wherever we are, in whatever situation we are in is vital, but I think we misunderstand it. We somehow imagine that we are meant to be destitute because it is God’s will, but that doesn’t jive with the whole of Scripture. The God of the Bible is very interested in providing for His people, of lavishing them with more than enough, with over-flow. It’s when they turned from Him and served other gods, or did awful things, that He removed His care. Became angry. Yet, even then, He always returned His provision, His love, His protection and care when they returned to Him. Not because they deserved it, but because He is good. Because He is mercy. He is love. Being content in all things means to know and trust that God is indeed good, He does not expect us to prove ourselves to Him because He took care of it at the cross. What He requires is our heart. Our trust.

Let me just throw this out there: God is not a stingy old bugger that is withholding from you. Life is not just about things and acquiring what we can and being shallow. But He did create good things, and intended them for us, and they are good when we realize where they come from, and are grateful. You are not a victim. You may have been one at some point in your life, but it doesn’t define you, and God certainly has not declared you to be one.

So do some research of your own. Discover, learn, grow, but don’t stay in your cage! Dream, and know that as you seek Him, He is big enough and strong enough to close doors, steer you in the right direction, and care for all of your needs. Because in the end, it’s not just about you. You are important to Him, you matter, and you have a purpose. And God takes care of His own.

Reap the Benefits

moneytreeBuild a career working for yourself without the hassle of chasing down leads or annoying the people closest to you ad-infinitum.

Do you like the idea of working for yourself, but are not sure where to start? Do you wish you could have more control over the hours you put in a day/week, as well as how much money you bring in? Many of us do.

I’m a mom with 3 growing girls, one of whom has special needs. Working shifts in home care caused me to rely on my eldest daughter to be home after school for her sisters, to “hold down the fort” by cooking supper and putting them to bed, or getting them off to school in the morning  – all depending on whatever my shift is that day. Funny thing: she’s grown up now, with plans to move out and pursue her own life-dreams, and I’m very proud of her. But it also made me realize I need to make changes in order to be around more for my remaining girls. Plus, I want to reap the benefits of the hours I put in every week in more ways than finances. I want to help empower others to not only be healthy using great products, but to empower them to overcome obstacles in fulfilling their dreams.

The beauty of running my own business from my home is that I get to control my hours knowing I will reap the benefits of what I put in rather than be “capped” at a certain point. I have found a company with a proven track record of pure, safe, and beneficial health & wellness / beauty & skincare products that I personally use and love to share with others. Arbonne is dedicated to bringing beauty, health and prosperity into my life & the lives of those I share it with. What a beautiful concept.

So, I discovered a couple of coaches online who teach how to use social media in business, and haven’t looked back. I love the interaction with people I meet in person as well as online, building my own business as I add value to theirs with my company’s products and vision.

Interested in finding out more? Send me a message on my Facebook page here, or leave me a message on this page, and I will get back to you right away. I love to share what I do, and how I do it.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Be your best,

Choosing the Quality I Want Over the Quantity I Don’t

Choosing the quality of the type I work I do over the simple quantity of hours I must work to get by is the jewel on my finger that makes me smile. Discovering that my interests, passions, motivations, and desire to serve can all contribute to how I provide for myself and my family sometimes makes me giddy, because it seems to good to be true. But it’s not, and here’s why:

One of the aspects of living fully is realizing we have choices. Sometimes when we feel like we’re between a rock and a hard place in terms of providing for ourselves and our families, we forget that there may be more out there than what we think we can see…

If you are looking to supplement your income, even just an extra $500 bucks/month to help cover family expenses, or if you’re looking for something to take the place of the job you are/were in, I invite you to look into creating a business for yourself.

Many of us have been looking for something new, something we can have more control over our lives with. One of the ways to achieve that is by learning how to leverage your time and your investment. That’s what I did.

  • As a busy mom of 3 growing girls, (one of whom has special needs) I have found that my time is precious. Maybe you feel the same way.
  • I want to be around more for them,
  • I want to take them on vacation,
  • to have the flexibility to arrange my working hours around my family and the things that are most important to me
  • without the stress of worrying that we can’t afford for me to be so lucky.

My kids despise the hours I worked. They’re good, solid, little women, but they miss me when I have to work long hours away from them. And I miss them. I’m afraid I may be missing entirely too much of the time I have with them at home. So I decided to do something about it.

I have fallen in love with a company whose products I was introduced to a few years ago, but didn’t bother pursuing. Not very long ago I was re-introduced to these products right about the time I was looking to supplement my income, and the lightbulb went on for me. Here I am, someone who loves healthy, beautiful things, and, like most women, tend to want to tell my friends about the things I love. So I jumped on board, and haven’t looked back since. (You can click here to find out what I’m doing.)

But I also discovered I don’t have to go door-to-door or hound people to buy what I’m selling like the old days… because to be honest, I have a hard time with that.

Here’s the thing: nearly everything we do now is related to the internet and all the toys that go along with it. Did you know that by 2020 at least 63% of the world’s population will be online? Think about it: when you want to find information about something, what is the 1st thing you tend to do? You google it! Well, a few years ago I discovered a coach who took me through the steps to learn how to market effectively online, bringing people right to me, instead of the other way around — and it changed everything! I don’t have to make endless phone calls with little or no luck. I don’t have to chase anyone anymore. I am a social media junkie who runs my business from my smartphone or laptop!

Is it a Scam?

This is what I received in my inbox this morning:

frustrated Scam Alert!

Beware: many friends and family have fallen for it. It is a program where you work your tail off for 40+ hours a week for 40 years to earn a $40 Gold watch and then try to live on 40% of what you could not live on while working 40 hours a week – known as a JOB.

It has been known for leaving people J.O.B (just over broke) after participating for 40 years or more yet millions of people do it daily.
If you have been a victim – I can help.

To be honest, this blurb caught my attention because I have listened to my co-workers and my friends, and have caught snatches of conversation not meant for me (is that eavesdropping? nah!), and all have touched on this exact thing: I’m working so hard now to end up with what later?

True enough, many love what they do for a living. There is satisfaction in their chosen profession whether it be in the medical, legal, or business fields, or as a tradesperson. Of course it’s a good thing to love what you do. And if we are good stewards of our money, as  Dave Ramsey teaches, then there’s no worry.

I’ve wanted to run my own business and leverage my time for a while. I can remember my pastor teaching on the book of Acts and something he said about the apostle Paul stuck with me. In chapter 18:3, it says that Paul stayed and worked in Corinth with his friends, because he earned his living by making tents just as they did. So here was the greatest missionary, evangelist, apostle, Good-News-spreader-ever making a living by making tents! Why has that stuck with me? Because my passion in life is to point women to the fullness of life with Jesus. I’m not Paul (duh!), but I do know there’s more with Jesus!  Yet I couldn’t figure out how or what I could do to bring that dream of pouring into other women about. I worked too many hours already while raising 3 kids, so how was I to squeeze something else in?

What if we could cut our hours back without sacrificing pay so we could be with our kids more, do what we love, and give to what is important to us? When I think about what I want now, and what I will want and also need later (retirement), I realize that I would like to avoid living on the low end of the scale just to survive. There is so much more to life than putting in so many hours a week just to get by. I want to add to others’ lives with both my time and my resources, but can’t do that if I’m tied to a job that leaves me tired and barely making it, working full-time for someone else.

It’s taken me 7 years of internal struggle and growing in faith in the One who loves me, but I know now that being in business for myself is more than just being about the money. It can change other people’s lives, turning bank accounts into opportunities to serve others. I also am convinced the idea didn’t just come from me. The Author of my dreams planted the seed, and even though I asked to have it removed, it has grown. My God goes before me, He comes behind me, and His hand of blessing is upon my head. (Psalm 139:5)
